Waderless weekend

Well I have 4 days off and the first 3 didn't produce much. I always take a few days off at this time as it is usually the wader peak but the only waders I saw were a few Common Sandpiper at Kamiiso. At Yakumo yesterday there were 3 species of egret including the above Great Egret but no waders anywhere. Black Headed Gulls have returned to Kamiiso and I also saw a Peregrine, Mandarin were at Yakumo and Osprey and  Kingfisher were at both.

Today I spent lazing about, hopefully September 1st will produce a few waders.

  1. It's a pretty scene with the flowers in the background and it's a great picture of The Great Egret!:)

  2. Bad luck re the waders, and I agree that it is a lovely setting for the Egret.

I'm taking a Queenslander to Werribee on Thursday, so hope to see some of the reported Curlew Sandpipers, Red-necked Stints and Sharp-tailed Sandpipers that have returned. Those three species make up well over 90% of the shorebirds there.

    1. The stints are the default small wader here but the other 2 are scarce in Hokkaido (actually ST Sand is a species I've never even seen)....................

  3. There are a couple of those at Leighton Moss. Might have to go there to see them - damn.
