Scratched pine

A Gyrflacon and a male Pine Bunting at Swara this afternoon.

I had a free afternoon and in glorious light we headed out to Sawara.

The Gyr was sat atop a pole and was scratching away.

It then flew off.

Unfortunately up close the 500 f4 is not an ideal BIF lens for obvious reasons.

It flew a few poles down and sat there for a couple of hours................

The Pine Buntings were around again.

They were difficult to approach and all these pics are heavy crops.

Whilst the sun was out the wind was very gentle meaning relatively warmish conditions. Actually I could hear lots of small bird noises in the long grass (usually the wind drowns out all noise)..............there could have been anything there.

I was hoping to see a Rough Legged Buzzard which has featured in other local blogs but nothing doing there.

Linked to Wild Bird Wednesday.

  1. You took advantage of some wonderful light to get today's photos. That gyrfalcon is just a beautiful bird; even having a scratch, its plumage looks incredible.
