2 years ago the harbour in Kamiiso was teeming with birds: grebes, divers and ducks. There were loads of Black Necked Grebes: over 100 individuals...........and many in summer plumage.
Not many around this spring, in fact not many around of anything in Hakodate. Hopefully that will change in the next few days

ReplyDeleteIn the early nineties I was the summer warden of what had been the biggest UK BN Grebe colony. 1 pair raised 1 young - strangely, I had a very short wardening career.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful blog, your photography is superb. I've only recently become interested in birds, and I live in western Honshu (Hiroshima). I know the two locales are very different, but at a first glance I haven't come across much in English on birding in Japan. Can you recommend anything you've found especially useful or enjoyable? Thanks.

Maethelwine-the kantori website (a yahoo group, do a search) might be the place to start but there isn't much in English i'm afraid.
