On this day (September 22nd)....................

September 22nd 2009.

Curlew Sandpiper at Oshamanbe. I initially overlooked this as a Dunlin until it was pointed out that it was in fact a Curlew Sandpiper. Not rare as such but still a pretty nice find and one I've yet to see down in Hakodate.

  1. There are Curlew Sands around here at the moment Stu. Interesting that your and our occurence times coincide, and yes it is easy to pass over a flock of Dunlin and miss the odd CS.

  2. There were more numbers of Crulew Sandpiper than usual around Ishikari to Tomakomai in this season.
I saw about 10 individuals, against 1 individual last year.

  4. It's totally opposite from what's in Thailand. Curlew Sandpiper is just one of the commonest waders to be found in the Gulf of Thailand, while Dunlin is a super duper rare vegrant.
