On this day (May 11th)....................

Wryneck

May 11th 2007.

Wryneck at Yunokawa.

Not a great shot but the only quarter decent one I've ever managed of this species. This is a fairly common spring and autumn migrant, I usually see 2 or 3 a year.

This one was in the trees and bushes adjacent to the river in Yunokawa. Sadly a lot of them have been cut down as the city government 'improves' the river...............

  1. Have never seen one of these. I'll have to keep my eyes out. Not a bad photo and any photo is better than nothing. Good work.

  2. Wryneck is not an easy to bird to photograph.
I haven't seen any in Japan yet, but in Thailand, they are always shy.

  3. Thanks for the comments, this is an old photo with a cheap 70-300 lens. They are tricky to photograph as they are very shy, I hope to see some more this spring with a) a decent lens on my camera and b) the bird not skulking in the bushes.........
